Samhain (Holloween) - October 31 Samhain is the Wiccan New Year, and is one of the four major holidays of Wicca. [Pronounced "Sow-hen or Sow-in"]. At this time, the God passes into the otherworld to be reborn to the Goddess at Yule. The division between the worlds is thin, and it is a time to remember one's ancestors and to reflect on the past year. In the past, it was at this time that animals were slaughtered for food during the winter and the tribal chief took part in the ritual as the King Stag. Yule (Winter Solstice) - circa December 20-23 Yule is a time of rebirth and renewal. At Yule, the Goddess gives birth to her son, the God who is symbolized by the sun. His birth brings hope and the promise of the coming summer. Yule is a remnant of older rituals which hurried the end of winter and the coming of spring. Imbolc (Brigid, Candlemas) - Feb. 2 Imbolc is one of the four major holidays of Wicca. Imbolc marks the growth of the God into a strong boy, as the days grow longer and the sun gets stronger. It also marks the recovery of the Goddess from giving birth to the God. It is a time of initiation, a beginning, as the seeds begin to wake from their winter sleep. Traditionally many initation rituals and self-dedication rituals are done at this time. Ostara (Eostar,The Spring Equinox) - circa March 20-23 The Spring Equinox marks the first day of spring. It is the time when the God grows to maturity. The night and day are equal, therefore it is a time of balance when our lives can be brought into harmony. It is a time of beginnings of action. Beltane (May Eve) - April 30, May 1st Beltane is one of the four major holidays of Wicca. Beltane is the emergence of the God into manhood. He falls in love with the Goddess, and their union results in the Goddess being with child. Beltane is a celebration of their coupling and the fertility of the Earth Goddess and all living things. Beltane marks the return of vitality and passion. Litha (Summer Solstice, Midsummer) - circa June 20-23 Midsummer falls on the longest day of the year. On this day the God begins his journey towards death as the days begin to get shorter. In the past, bonfires were leapt to encourage fertility, health, and love. Lammas (Lughnasadh) - August 1 Lammas is one of the four major holidays of Wicca. Lammas is the celebration of the successful growing season. The grain is ripe, but is just beginning to be harvested. The God loses strength as the days grow shorter. It is a time to address and overcome fears and anxiety. Mabon (Autumn Equinox) - circa September 20-23 Mabon is the celebration of a successful harvest. Once again, night and day are equal. It is a time to address the balance in our lives and to be thankful for our success. The God continues to fade with the sun, while the Goddess mourns his loss but rejoices in her pregnancy. When there are no further aspects to perform in Moon's current sign, no relevant events may happen.

Mercury Retrograde The word retrograde applies, in astrology, to the apparent backward motion thru the zodiac of a planet. An old encyclopedia of astrology describes this retrograde motion as "the effect of a slow-moving train as viewed from another train traveling parallel to it but at a more rapid rate, wherein the slower train appears to be moving backwards. However, in the case of the celestial bodies it is not a matter of their actual speed of travel, but of the rate at which they change their angular relationship."* All the planets, except Sun and Moon, have these retrograde periods, but Mercury is most famous for them, probably because Mercury represents our very essential communication abilities. You will find that at these times ones world can seem like if something can go wrong it will. This is a time of caution and you should not enter into anything new, try to keep watch of your spoken words, keep the social life to a minimum and expect delays in things that are most important.

Learning the basics It is said that we all come into this world with the knowledge of all we need to survive. As time goes on we loose what we have come with as we shed our innocence and replace it with the fears of what others will think. Using ones gifts and label us as different and we are taught that in order to fit in we must all be the same. This is simply a shame. Can you recall as a child that with in the dream state you could fly? Have you ever had a dream of this as an adult? For most the answer is no. By following the simple steps below you can regain that essence of childhood, capture what has been repressed and experience this world and different realms from the comfort of your own private space. Now in the beginning you may find this a difficult thing to do, don't give up as it will happen. This holds true , for if you desire it with in your heart the rest will come with practice. Find a quiet place . . . Free of distractions. . . This is important as you do not want to be disturbed Adjust the lighting and room temperature. . . I personally like the room to be very dim candle light preferred or completely dark, I will light a candle with a mild scent.
Adjust clothing . . . Remove Footwear Feel comfortable, making sure that a comforter or blanket is on you, as during travel you can become cold when the physical body is left Sit down or lie down . . .This is a personal choice, I find that lying down allows you to completely relax the body, I prefer the floor, but a couch or bed is fine as well Find a position that is comfortable for you . . . Quiet your mind . . . Still your thoughts . . .Allow your mind to go blank. If you plan to travel to a special location, then consentrate only on the place you wish to see or a person you wish to be with in your mind.
Relax your body. . . This is the part that a lot of people have a difficult time with, I have found that the best way is to start at the bottom of the feet, consentrating on feeling them relax, then move up to the calfs, then to the thighs, now relax the mussels in your stomach, concentrate on your breathing, feeling your chest raise and fall. Relax each arm and hand, so that you feel as you are melting in to the the surfice you are upon. Move up to your neck and then your head. When you are finished you should feel like dead weight, almost not being able to move you limbs. Totally relaxed, mind body and spirit.
Focus on your breathing . . . Inhale slowly and deeply through your nose . . . Retain the breath as long as is comfortable . . . Exhale through the mouth slowly and completely . . . Repeat for two more breaths . . . or as is comfortable. Let go of the fear of leaving your physical body. Remember you are always attached with the silver cord, and can come back when ever you wish. Remember you astral project when you sleep. This is done nightly, although you may not have recall when you awake See yourself floating away from your physical body. You may feel a release or perhaps hear a sound as you leave Now travel to the place of your choice. Meet your guides, visit far off places or visit a friend. Knowing that you will remember all that you see hear touch and feel. Now If you get fearful, please stop as you are not ready for astral projection. Anything done in metaphysics should feel comfortable and easy. Do Not get discouraged if you can not achieve flight in the first try, take time to repeat this exercise again, and again keep trying....We all have the gift of flight, we just need to practice...
The Wiccan Rede (Long form) (also known as The Rede of the Wiccae and the Witches' Creed) Generally credited to Doreen Valiente Hear now the word of the Witches, the secrets we hid in the night, When dark was our destinys pathway, That now we bring forth in the light. Mysterious Water and Fire, The Earth and the wide-ranging Air, By hidden Quintessence we know Them, and we will keep silent and dare. The birth and rebirth of all Nature, the passing of Winter and Spring, We share with the life Universal, rejoice in the Magical Ring Four times in the year the Great Sabbat, returns, and the Witches are seen, At Lammas and Candelas dancing, on May Eve and old Halloween When daytime and nighttime are equal, when sun is at greatest and least, The four lesser Sabbats are summoned, again Witches gather in feast. Thirteen silver moons in a year are, thirteen is the Covens array, Thirteen times at Esbat make merry, for each golden year and a day. The power has passed down the ages, each time between woman and man Each century unto the other, ere times and the ages began. When drawn is the Magickal circle, by sword or athame of power, Its compass between two worlds lies, in the land of shades of that hour. Our world has no right to know it, and the world beyond will tell naught, The oldest of Gods are invoked there, the great work of Magic is wrought. For two are the mystical pillars, that stand at the gate of the shrine, And two are the powers of Nature, the forms and the forces divine. And do what thou wilt be the challenge, so be it in love that harms none, For this is the only commandment, By Magick of old be it done. Eight words the Witches Rede fulfill: If it Harms none, Do what Thou Will!
